Miracles of Jesus #15 (Jesus Heals the Woman with An Issue of Blood)

 Miracle #15

The story of Jesus healing a woman with an issue of blood is found in Mark 5:24-34 (also in Matthew 9:20-22 and Luke 8:43-48).

The Story:

Setting: Jesus was on his way to heal Jairus's dying daughter, surrounded by a large crowd pressing against him

The woman: She had suffered from bleeding/hemorrhaging for twelve years

Her suffering: She had endured much under many doctors, spent all her money, but grew worse instead of better (Mark notes this detail)

Her plan: She thought, "If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed"

Her action: She came up behind Jesus in the crowd and touched his cloak

Immediate healing: The bleeding stopped instantly, and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering

Jesus's awareness: He immediately knew that power had gone out from him and asked, "Who touched my clothes?"

The disciples' confusion: They pointed out that many people were crowding against him

The woman's response: Frightened and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, she came forward, fell at his feet, and told him the whole truth

Jesus's words: "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering"

Significance:

  • Her condition made her ceremonially unclean, socially isolated for twelve years
  • Her faith was demonstrated by her action despite fear and shame
  • Jesus publicly acknowledged her, restoring her dignity and place in community
  • The healing was both physical and social/spiritual
  • Jesus called her "Daughter"—a term of affection and acceptance
  • Her faith, not just the touch, was credited for her healing
  • Shows Jesus's compassion for the marginalized and suffering
  • Interrupted on his way to help a synagogue leader, Jesus still took time for an outcast woman

This story beautifully illustrates Jesus's care for the forgotten and his power to restore completely.

What is the message we are sharing? The message is the Good News of Jesus Christ and God’s Plan of Salvation. When? When should we share? We share whenever God opens the door—during daily conversations, planned opportunities, or unexpected moments. Where? Where can we share?
