Chapter 1: King Ahasuerus of Persia throws a lavish banquet for all his officials and subjects, during which he commands his queen, Vashti, to appear before him and display her beauty to the guests. Vashti refuses, and the king banishes her from the palace.

Chapter 2: In search of a new queen, the king holds a beauty contest. Esther, a Jewish orphan raised by her cousin Mordecai, is chosen as the new queen.

Chapter 3: Haman, an evil advisor to the king, becomes angry when Mordecai refuses to bow down to him. He hatches a plan to exterminate all the Jews in Persia and obtains the king's approval for his scheme.

Chapter 4: Mordecai learns of Haman's plot and urges Esther to use her position as queen to intervene. Esther is initially hesitant, but Mordecai encourages her to take action and reminds her that she was made queen for such a time as this.

Chapter 5: Esther approaches the king uninvited and reveals Haman's plot. The king is outraged and orders Haman to be executed.

Chapter 6: That same night, the king is unable to sleep and orders his scribes to read from the book of chronicles. They come across a passage that recounts how Mordecai had once saved the king's life, but had not been properly rewarded. The king resolves to honor Mordecai.

Chapter 7: Esther reveals her Jewish identity to the king and pleads for her people's survival. The king grants her request and orders Haman to be executed.

Chapter 8: Esther and Mordecai institute the feast of Purim to celebrate their deliverance and commemorate the Jews' victory over their enemies. The king issues a decree allowing the Jews to defend themselves against any attackers.

Chapter 9: The Jews triumph over their enemies and celebrate their victory with feasting and rejoicing.

Chapter 10: The book of Esther concludes by describing how Mordecai rose to prominence in the king's court and how he worked for the welfare of his people. It also notes that his story was recorded in the official chronicles of the Persian kings.

It is the clear communication of God’s plan of salvation so that people can hear, understand, and respond to the Gospel.
