Chapters 19-21: An Israelite man's concubine is raped and killed by the men of Gibeah, and the Israelites go to war against the tribe of Benjamin. The Benjamites are nearly wiped out but are saved when the Israelites allow them to take wives from Jabesh-gilead.
These chapters demonstrate the moral decay of Israel during the period of the judges, as well as the cycle of violence and revenge that characterizes the book. They also introduce several new characters, including Samson and Micah. The story of the Levite's concubine and the war against Benjamin is a particularly gruesome and tragic episode in Israel's history.
