Jonah Brief Study Notes

Sometimes studying the bible is difficult because it can be hard to decipher/understand.
These notes are for the encouragement of the study of God's word daily, (only to be used/read with your Bible.) Not a Bible replacement.

Chapter 1: God's Call and Jonah's Rebellion

God calls Jonah to go to Nineveh and preach against its wickedness, but Jonah rebels and tries to flee from God by boarding a ship headed in the opposite direction. However, a great storm arises and Jonah eventually confesses to the crew that he is the cause of the storm. They throw him overboard, and Jonah is swallowed by a great fish.

Chapter 2: Jonah's Prayer and Deliverance
Inside the belly of the fish, Jonah prays to God for deliverance and acknowledges his rebellion. God hears his prayer and commands the fish to spit Jonah out onto dry land.

Chapter 3: Jonah Preaches to Nineveh
God once again commands Jonah to go to Nineveh and preach against its wickedness. This time, Jonah obeys and preaches a message of judgment, warning the people that God will destroy the city in 40 days if they don't repent.

Chapter 4: Jonah's Anger and God's Compassion
When the people of Nineveh repent and turn to God, He relents from destroying the city. This makes Jonah angry, and he complains to God that he knew all along God would show compassion. God responds by challenging Jonah's priorities and reminding him of His love and compassion for all people, including the people of Nineveh.

Overall, the book of Jonah is a story about God's grace and mercy, as well as our own tendency towards rebellion and selfishness. It highlights the importance of obedience and the power of repentance, as well as the need to extend compassion and forgiveness to others.

What Is Evangelism? Evangelism is the intentional and loving act of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with others. It is the clear communication of God’s plan of salvation so that people can hear, understand, and respond to the Gospel. Evangelism centers on the message that Jesus Christ lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, was buried, and rose again , providing the way for forgiveness, reconciliation with God, and eternal life. It is not about arguments, pressure, or force. Evangelism is about truth spoken in love .
